Winners Up! Smack Jeeves Awards 2010

Best Religious is an interesting category, and I've seen a few really good religiously themed comics, but it just doesn't seem like that prominent of a genre. Also, usually comics dealing with things like Heaven, Hell, angels, demons, etc usually lean more towards fantasy in their genre, not saying REAL religion is all fantasy, but the fantasy genre loves religious motifs. Also horror.

Sure, the photo-comic category didn't get any nominees either, but it's a category in the SJ search engine so I figured to not exclude them just because I personally don't read any. Also, it's more of a stylistic choice, which is why it's there. ANY style of comic could be religiously themed.

Me and the rest of the committee will definitely put it up for consideration for a new category next year. Thanks for your suggestion.

There is no religious category most likely because there are so few religious comics around (and most of the ones around are nowhere near the quality of works in the other categories).

Well like I stated, there aren't enough photographic entries to make a category, but there still is one, simply because it's a searchable category.

As for your statement that the quality is nowhere near the works in the other categories... I have to disagree, simply because I've looked at some of the stranger categories up for awards, and the quality leaves quite a bit to be desired. But then, what does "quality" mean? Drawings? Story? Both? Or either? Either way, the quality thing doesn't seem to be an issue in certain categories.

Next time, to get more recognition, there should be a nice little (well bigger than a normal banner) "SMACKJEEVES AWARDS 20XX" picture on the top of the home page to promote it, cause.. Maybe people pay more attention than I do, but I hardly ever look at the boring Smackjeeves News text box thing.
