Avatar Guidelines?

Postby $uperLugia95 » January 16th, 2010, 3:18 pm

Hello, um I was wondering if there's a gudieline for avatars. There's some avatars that I want but if they show Partial Nudity, but aren't just random hentai or anything that sexual, just artistic nudity, but not fully showing, would that be okay?
If you want I'll show them to you guys if you want to see what I mean......

There are kids on the forums.. If it's something that would be okay to show to a 12 or 13 year old, then it should be fine. If not, I'd advise against it..

I'll keep it at a PG-13 level, yet I don't know what expectations, or what can be considered PG-13 level or Mature level.
And since it's just Partial Nudity, and not Hentai I don't know.......

Well if you find the content offensive then please report the user to your local moderator or admin to take care of it. Other than that, there is no real guideline to it, except keeping it pg-13 or below. Unlike comics, Avatars and Banners are not filtered, and have to be dealt with immediately.

EDIT: Moved this thread to the correct forum.

If you're that concerned over it, I wouldn't bother. Partial nudity to the level of, I dunno, a chick in a bikini would be fine. Though if it equals like a nude person covering themselves up to the same degree as skimpy clothing would, that's more provocative and probably wouldn't fly. That's my thinking at least, I'm not Admin, I just enforce his will upon you.

I'd say if you could go outside dressed like your avatar and not get arrested... it's okay.

Yeah, but like Michelangelo's David or Picasso's Blue Nude, are examples of stuff that tons of kids see, since they're under the category of art.

As Tezzle said, we're unsure what Admin would considered acceptable and not. However, in my opinion I would avoid using those kinds of images, especially the Samus with the nipple popping out of her suit. Personally, I would just avoid the gray areas because we do have 12-13 year old users on smack jeeves that would get into trouble with seeing those avatars.

Thanks, so then neither are ok right?
Well anyways...I guess what you guys say is pretty close to what admin would say.......
So I'll just stick with this for now.

P.S. What do you mean by gray areas?

What I mean by gray areas are the material that would be acceptable but could also be considered against the rules (similar the legal issue with sprites). Like a girl in a bikini would be considered ok, but also be questionable at the same time. Alea made a good point on how to decide on what would be acceptable. There is no right or wrong answer because it falls in both categories. I don't want to sound like I'm making the final decision here, just giving an idea of what might be appropriate.

Alright then, thanks!
Ironically you said some 12 or 13 year olds may get in trouble,
strangely I'm 14, and just turned it Dec. 21.lol
What Alea said was good though, yet had many contradictions
like I think you'd get arrested for wearing a bikini with bunny ears.lol
Or you'd get arrested for having a gun, or a katana.lol
Just saying this as a joke, I'm not whining, searching for loopholes,
so I can have my avatar.lol

Well as long as it's not showing anything overly suggestive or illegal, you should be fine. Besides, if it is a problem, we would contact you first before any forceful action occurs (unless it deliberately breaks the rules).

I was just wondering. Is there a similar restriction on banners? I've seen some that went near to or crossed the line, such as, ugh, visible tongue wrestling, and I want to know if those are the kind I should report, as I really don't think those should be popping up when browsing.
