Getting in shape!

Postby Kazuuu » June 2nd, 2009, 10:45 pm

Summer's coming up! That means swim suits! But when you try on your swimming trunks, you realize you're out of shape! OH NO! You don't want to drive to the beach looking like this, do you? So, it's time to get in shape! BUT THERE'S ONLY ONE PROBLEM! You don't know how!

Tell me SJ, how do you get in shape? How would you recommend getting in shape? When I was 11, I had abs. But those disappeared through the years due to inactivity. AKA, making webcomics on SJ.

Today, to try and get some of dat abbage and muscles, I've done 100 situps, 50 repetitions with 10 pound weights (10 lbs might not be a lot, but after about 25 it adds up. Or at least for a scrawny asian guy like me), 20 laps in the pool, Tae Kwan Doe on Bob (the dummy), and I did planks 3 times, each time for 1 minute. All of that happened today. If I keep this up, will I get abs? Do you keep in shape? If so, SHARE YOUR SECRETS. If you don't, then take the challenge with me to look hot. KYAH KYAH.

Eating right plays a big part.

I don't do much but my body's in pretty good shape.

I'm in pretty good shape and all I do is eat moderately (1, well balanced meal a day) and run whenever I feel like it (I like to run at night, especially when it's raining in the spring and summer, light mists are the best because they feel so awesome to run through) I usually end up running/walking about 2 hours every few days. That and awesome genes generally do it for me.

This isn't really an intentional work-out, I just happen to have healthy habits, so I'm sure you could step it up if you were trying to get in shape.

Yay, hotness challenge. <:

Kettlebells, yo. Also, I do a lot of boxing and parkour. I wanna get a nice, lean body by the end of this year~ As for my diet, mainly peanut butter sandwiches, fruit, milk, tons of spinach, and some meat here and there.

How did you get that photo of me?

I don't really gain weight/fat, so there's nothing really to burn. But, I probably could shape it.

My secret technique is to pace myself. 5 press ups a day, 2 minutes walk to bus stop, and lots of finger exercise.

Before I started uni I had some nice pectoros, but its slowly faded because I've not had much time to do sports/karate/fencing, maybe that would change after the exams.

Every morning I run, not because I want to, but because I always wake up slightly late (6:10ish) takes me 40 mins to get shower/dress/eat and realise I won't make it to the bus stop if I walk, so its a 6 min jogging xD.
Also I don't watch the food, just eat whatever is on the plate and I wouldn't categorise some foods as "bad for you", its just that some should be eaten at say every 2 weeks rather than everyday.

This year however I did go visit the gym for the first time ever (in march) it was pretty good and exhausting, the first day we spent the hour working on just the legs, and used various equipments to work on various muscles, even though my buddies told me to take it easy and work it at a slow pace... I wanted to fit in with the guys and worked at their pace and proceeded to do 50 kilo overhead squat lifts... which was a bad thing, the night I was unable to sleep because I couldn't bend the legs HAHA, the muscles were broke and and was painful x_X,

next day I felt better and could only sorta penguin walk but they forced me in that gym again (similar to that episode of King of the Hill, where Bill gets gym friends), this time working on the arms, it was a bit easier this round and learned my lesson by working a my pace, at the end I could only crab walk but it was good and felt better in the next day.
oh and there was this equipment, dunno what it was called but you sorta bend/lean on it, and you sorta lift the weights by pushing your rear upwards, that was so random... a booty workout! xD.

So yea I think a workout is always good for the body, as long as you're working at your own pace, you feel nice and fresh and smexy too.

And... me again.

I suspect I'll get fat when I'm older though, because I do love food. :P

I did use Wii Fit, but then we were in the midst of moving, and...well, it got packed up for a few weeks...It's been hooked back up for 2 months and I haven't touched it. I dunno if it's affected me. I see me every day so it's hard to notice any slight changes in weight. I got a bit of a gut, but while I don't eat a lot of fruits/veggies or exercise, I don't eat a lot. I should probably start. It'll just get to me when I'm older I'm sure.

if you want to build muscle, you need to eat a lot of protein. also, you should do some cardio, like running. weight lifting and toning don't work as well without cardio. be sure to rest your muscles for at least a day, especially when you're getting started, to prevent damage (the pain in your muscles is from tears in the muscle tissue, if you aggravate those with more work you could end up with an injury) and allow your muscles to bulk.

ANYWAY, i'm more of a diet girl, but i do a lot of biking. i like going several miles downhill and then going back uphill. i also like tennis.

wii fit kinda sucks. it only really helps you wish your posture and balance. try the wii active instead, it's much more intense.

Hurr, I've been trying to drop a bit of podge recently. I am also blessed with a decent enough metabolism so that it takes me being extremely unhealthy to gain any significant amount of weight. I don't exercise everyday, but I'll do crunches every now and then, or fifteen minutes on our exercise bike, just to feel like I'm doing something.

I walk a lot, though. I have to walk for 20-30 minutes all uphill to uni, and then do it all again at the end of the day. And walking around campus takes a while, because everything is so spread out. Like others have said, too, for simply dropping weight and not toning up diet helps massive amounts. I cut fizzy drinks out of my diet, as well as binge eating biscuits, and saw a difference in a couple of weeks from that alone.

We also have one of those step machines (you know, like the ones with the pedals you pump up and down?) that fits under my desk. So I can exercise whilst being on the computer!

Bicycle is my main form of transportation. Now i'm not one of those people with fancy shorts, disk brakes and 2 gazillion gears. That said, only the touring geared and kitted out semi pro's out race my rickety piece of scrap metal. I don't ride, i haul @ss. ('s good cardio right there, but one does require a fresh shirt upon arrival.)

Besides that, i do some leg lifts, push ups and chin ups a couple of times a week. Nothing major.
Used to do some running, but it really wasn't helping my hips, knees and ankles any, so i kinda had to let that go.

One thing i have done consistently for years now is condition my index and middle fingers. But i don't think mastering the poke of spooky doom is helping me stay in shape.

All in all, i could do better. But then i might lose the precious little fat i managed to gain over the last couple of years. I really would like to keep that thin layer of insulation. Especially considering the local climate.
(The wet-like coldness, can we has less plz?)
