I think it might be the ads, but I continuously have my anti-virus block various parts of the sites like this:

Spoiler! :

For multiple pages as well. Not just my favorites.

Hi, I'm a new user of Smackjeeves but recently as I was browsing the most popular comics (before I made an account,) my desktop got attacked by a nasty virus or spyware thing that installed "Win 7 Antispyware Unregistered Version" on my computer. I believe it might have come from an ad on Smackjeeves but unfortunately whatever it was immediately closed my internet browser so I couldn't get a screencap of it. I'm not positive it came from Smackjeeves, and it may have come from Facebook for all I know, but I know that I would like people to beware of this problem so they don't get attacked like I did ): It even got through my anti-virus and shut down my task manager! So please, be careful and hopefully no one else has had this problem but I thought I would warn you. My apologies for being so vague in my description of the ad but I wasn't able to glean much information about it. I hope it's still possible to check if this problem potentially came from here so it can be taken care of? I also apologize for being so terribly long-winded @.@

What do you mean by "email ads"?
If you're talking about the fact that these ads-as-comments are present at all, then the only way to get rid of them is to get a paid subscription for your webcomic (also, they don't show up if you're logged in). These ads sare needed to support SJ and keep free accounts available, which is why the only way to get rid of them is to pay. This thread specifically is for reporting ads that are actually harmful, such as virus ads, pop-overs, etc.

I do have a paid subscription. I thought maybe it expired, so I renewed it, but they're still there. I came to this thread through the help section, but if this isn't the appropriate place, what is?

This thread is specifically for ads that are appearing where they should, but are malicious/annoying/adult, etc.

If your problem is that ads are showing up where they shouldn't be, you should make a new thread in the Bugs & Glitcches forum. However... if the comic you're talking about is the one in your profile, then I don't think there's a problem with the ads. That comic does not have a paid subscription. Are you sure you renewed it? Perhaps the payment hasn't gone through yet and it hasn't been assigned yet? I'm not sure how long it usually takes.

Inappropriate adverts

Postby SRQ » June 7th, 2012, 7:43 am

I am not a prude... but I am also not really sure that some of the adverts I've been seeing lately are totally appropriate given the content of the website.

I mean, it was bad enough when topless soldiers were appearing in this box but now "date a slag" websites?

Whaaaat?

See attached file for screen cap.

We have a thread in Bugs & Glitches especially for these kinds of ads: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5

If you want, I can merge this thread with it.
