Don't you hate when your Comic Page is over 500kb?

Postby ColeDX » May 21st, 2012, 11:19 pm

If you're a free user of SmackJeeves who loves to make comics, don't you hate it when you finish a page, like it took forever to do, but then you find out it's over 500kb?

Sucks doesn't it :P lol

And doesn't it make it more frustrating that you find another webcomic on SmackJeeves that uploads over 500kb and they don't have any membership? :o Awkward...

Yes, I've seen people upload over 500kb with no membership all the time XD

PROOF- If you go to the page below, go to the comic page, right click, and click View Page Info, you'll see its around 700 kb :o And the page was updated today, and it had no membership. I need to learn how to do that XD

TinyPic + Remote Linking instead of uploading off of your computer = Bye bye filesize limits.

Actually most image hosting services would probably do, but TinyPic has no limits, no account needed and they don't take down your images save for rare and seemingly random cases but even then you can re-upload it no problem. I spam the poor site with reaction images that I then use here all the time because I'm too lazy to keep track of the codes for the ones I upload, hahaha.
Basically you go to TinyPic and upload your page.
Once it's done you grab the code that says "Direct Link for Layouts" and then paste that code here;

Alternatively just, y'know, compress your files properly? Think of the poor people who still use slow connections... :(

Actaully, I was using progressive JPEG to lower the size, which makes loading the image take longer to load. It actually loads faster now :? Plus its hard to lower size without losing so much quality.

What program are you using? If Photoshop - use the "save for web and devices" option instead of regular saving, for better compression options (:

"Save for web" really is the easiest way xD Filesize problems be gone!

I used to put them on an image hosting site, but sometimes they can get arsey or just randomly stop working.

imgur is nice. I used to upload my pages to DeviantArt and use the URL here. That served as problematic now that I deleted my old DA, half the pages of my old comics won't show up now.

I always need to use compression ("Save for Web" option in PS) when saving my pages for SJ. Depending on the page, the quality I could get for just under 500 KB is usually between 75 and 90, but there was one where I had to lower it to 65 in order to fit.
