Do you post your real name in your webcomic/website?

A place for folks to discuss the professional side of comics and webcomics.

I'm still kind of waffling between using my pen name vs my real name. Both are fairly easy to remember, but my real name vs my pen name is really really long, and it doesn't always fit easily on business cards. Plus it's an uncommon spelling of a common name (Stefanie). I guess i'm using one as my name, and the other more as a brand.

I don't. Ever.
For one thing, there's only one person with my name on the entire internet, anywhere.
Me.
For another, it's over thirty characters long (counting spaces), nigh on unspellable, and requires multiple explanations of the pronunciation for people to stop butchering it like a herd of unfortunate cattle and risking the summoning of some unthinkable elder thing from the depths of the subconscious.

My username, on the other hand, is short, pronounceable, and almost conventional spelling. I've also picked up another one for certain activities (that I don't want connected too strongly to my main accounts...) which is long but relatively easy to remember (BenevolentWanderer).
As long as you stick to the same username everywhere, you'll still be fairly distinctive. Swapping names around makes it harder to find you. Consistency is key.

I like my pen name. It just fits, I think. Besides, I'm no professional.

And distinctiveness. I may have come up with my username in a mildly silly way (goofing around with a Welsh translator), but I've grown very attached to it, and it's not something anyone else is likely to come up with on accident. The only other active name I'm using is "Geneth," which is less unique but still easy enough to associate if you know me somewhere else.

Unless I can come up with a good pen name I'll probably keep using my real name.

I may consider doing so if the comic takes off sufficiently, as the writer, but for now I prefer using an alias, since it's also a name I'm known as many other places = familiarity and none of the disadvantages of using my own name.

I don't see anything wrong with using my real name. It isn't blatantly advertised, but you can find it nestled away on the About Page along with my contact info.

I kind of waffle between using my real name and this screen name. I started by using this screen name back when I was a kid, tried to switch over to my real name as an adult, but still had people using my screen name. At this point, there's nothing I can do to control consistency so I just don't think about it.
I like using this name for screen handles and stuff rather than my real name. Not really for privacy reasons, it just seems more fun and imaginative. not surprisingly, there are less wulfmunes then there are jens. wulfmune doesn't bring up any porn actresses in google either. ;)

I put my name on my webcomic because I mention it in my CV/ Resume.
So I definitely want there to know that the webcomic is my work.

Running a webcomic shows commitment to a project, self motivation, time keeping, and management skills.
So I like having my name associated with these traits.

I post my real name, and I use it as my username whenever I can. I'm a little worried about what to do after I get married, though. My fiancee doesn't want to take my last name, though we really want to have the same last name. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I think it's entirely up to the author. I personally use my real name because this comic is my most loved creation and having my name associated with it is something that makes me incredibly happy. I can understand how some people would be very uncomfortable with putting their real name out there though, and that's perfectly alright. :)

I've been taught growing up that I shouldn't use my real name on the internet so I try to avoid it. In my opinion, you don't necessarily have to have your real name there to sound professional.

The only problem I've run into with that is my constant change of using usernames xD; And as I usually watermark works according to my username, that doesn't help out much ^^;

My name is simple and unusual, so I like it. (but my name seems to be even more unsual with americans, you guys love to misspell my name in multiplayer games, like, calling me "Circo")

So if I do an webcomic, I would use my name.

It's on the about page for my comic.

And guess what, it's glitched.
