Guys what the fuck is Pottermore. I've been trying to understand this for like, weeks and failing.

Also, post your usernames here or something.

Pottermore is an interactive Harry Potter experience that was made by Rowling. Basically, she adds new content to read about the world with interactive excerpts from the books that you can collect items from, zoom around the areas, and even go shopping in Diagon Alley for all of your school supplies. It's essentially something to read along to the books with, since that is what she suggests. I haven't even gotten through the first book yet in the beta, but so far I have taken a quiz to get my wand, bought all my school supplies, and was sorted in to Hufflepuff.

It has some minor RPG elements to it, like a banking system, item collecting, and a few other things to make it more personalized for the reader. You also gain house points and are going for the house cup.. Not sure how to get points yet. It also is offering the books for the first time for e-readers.

My username is GalleonSeeker105

EDIT: I'm currently making potions and following my potion book for house points. It's really amusing since I actually have to DO what it says. Clever, Rowling.. Way to keep me addicted.

EDIT EDIT: I failed making the potion, like, 3 times in a row. Now I'm waiting for 3 minutes for it to brew and see if I did it right this time. It hasn't exploded on my screen like the others.. so I think this is a good sign.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: SUCCESS! Unfortunately it was just a test potion.. now I'm waiting on one for 85 minutes to brew before I can continue with the potion. How long were Snape's classes, because I mean holy shit if that had to wait around for 85 minutes for a potion to brew a bit before being able to add more ingredients.

This seems mildly intriguing to me as someone who isn't a HUGE Potter fan but generally enjoyed them.

However, getting into this apparently requires me to read all the books again? Hahaha yeah I'll pass. I have way too many books to read for college, re-reading anything is pretty much out of the question.

...but if I did I hope I'd get into Ravenclaw.

Yeah well there was this whole big event about "Catching the Magical Quill", that allowed you early entrance!! Not everything is available, as it's still in the beta stage, but it's still really fun! : D

I haven't gotten to be sorted yet. D:

Anyone have a flying car I can...ahem...borrow?

Also, I will be one sad witch if I don't get into Ravenclaw.

No, not really. It just has illustrations and tidbits from each part of the book, which might not be comprehensible to someone who has never read it but is a nice way to remember what happened from the last time you read it.

I wanted to be in Ravenclaw too, but I got Slytherin. I guess it fits me pretty well, unfortunately...

I think i would ideally be placed in Slytherin too. Not that that's a bad thing ambition and perseverence is a bad trait now?
I really dont like how the harry potter books gave Slytherin such a bad reputation.

What I thought I saw when I read about it initially was that this was like an interactive book where you make a character and things happen as you go through the book that your character has choices over that affect the outcome of the book. Essentially a choose your own adventure book, but with your character. Which I thought sounded like everything I could ever ask for in a Harry Potter anything.

Then I found out that everything I thought I knew was a lie, and it's what you guys are saying it is. And that disappointed me so deeply that I was uninterested in it to no end. But everyone's talking about it, and whatever. Is there any merit to it? Is there anything different in doing Pottermore than just reading the books to begin with? I mean, I had a blast reading the books. This just seems... dumb.

And this is all coming from someone who memorized every spell in the Harry Potter books.

Well the thing that's different in Pottermore is that you don't go through the book page per page, but instead of through amazing illustrations, which you can interact with and zoom in on. You can also brew potions (which is surprisingly difficult!!) and have wizard duels against other people! (though I haven't done that yet myself...)

You get sorted into your own house by taking a quiz, acquire your very own wand through the same means, shop for all of your school supplies (including your very own pet!). By going through the books and collecting various things, successfully brewing potions/winning duels and whatnot, you can gather up Housepoints, which all contribute to the grand total, and you can see where all of the other houses are doing as well (last time I checked Ravenclaw was in the lead... but that was some time ago!)

In addition, by collecting these various things in the illustrations, you can unlock hidden info that no one has seen before! Like Professor Mcgonagall's past! (Which is really sad! D: ) as well as other tidbits of information you may have missed out on when reading!

I love the new content from Rowling. We actually got to read about what's inside of the Hufflepuff common room and it's.. it's so cozy and amazing. It's totally my favorite common room now. I love all the other bits about other characters and places as well. You don't HAVE to read the books while playing it. I just had fun exploring the layered pages, making potions, and collecting wizard cards.

I'll get into this during October but I probably won't get sorted and have to lug Hagrid's bags around the grounds.

I don't know if that's an option on Pottermore.. I guess you could just hang out in the chapters that revolve around Hagrid and his hut and constantly make comments trying to RP that you're dragging his stuff around.

Seems legit. Also, I added you Reigan. <3
