:3 Wow! Thank you a lot ^^

This has really been interesting hearing people's opinions on these sorts of things!

I just saw a lot of stuff that was fanfictionish or BL like other people said on here so I was really wondering :)

In my opinion, I would think it's more fun to MAKE a fan fiction comic than to read one. Obviously not everyone agrees, but that's how I feel about it.

I totally agree with this as well. I don't often read fan works, but I've already thought out several of 'em myself, haha.

===This. I agree wholeheartedly. For example, These Angles, one of the comics I'm working on, is awesomely fun to draw. reading it is totally fine, but i can tell ya right from the start, it wont be a favourite because it isnt original enough. i like it, some other people like it, maybe one person might love it. its not bad - it's just not going to be epic due to a lack of original content.
===then theres comics like Mokepon, where even though its kind of the fan comic idea, it brings new things to it and seems a lot like a parody. its as awesome as DBZ abridged or something because its humourous and spins a well known thought or story. the characters arent the characters from the actual series, and that helps a lot, i think. theres some originality.
===then, there are original comics. it's a field of hit and misses, but i find that when i unearth a good original comic, its far more capturing than anything that isnt original. its easier to find fan comics, but original comins feel like they have far more promise.
===in the end, id have to say that i preffer original comics.

Parodies I find to be a bit different. A good parody requires an extensively researched knowledge of the work, its medium, its genre, and/or anything else relevant. A good parody does not contend to replace the canon, or even to extend it, but to provide a different point of view in a thought-provoking (often witty) manner.

Obviously, like you said, parodies and fan comics can overlap, and pretty much usually have to, as you can't make a parody of an original piece that doesn't exist yet :P Parodies are a subset of fan comics, and good parodies are a subset of all parodies. Just as all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares, and that sort of rubbish.

I lean towards fan comics(But I do like to read an original once in a while), but only the kind that have some thought put into them, not just huge rip-offs of Bob and george, or sonic and pals. Seriously, they're good comics, but nobody wants to read the same cliche over and over again.

hmm... If I'm reading fiction online, then I much more prefer fanfiction than original fiction.
But I don't have that much of a preference for comics, because there's so many original webcomics around that are easy to get interested in. But, I do like fancomics of anime (or manga) series I know. It's just that there aren't many fancomics on this site, and the few that are may not be good.
(I much prefer creating fanworks, though. I just don't get much inspiration for original stuff, and I usually end up disliking my original ideas)

I much prefer Original over fan unless the story seems interesting enough then I really don't care. And sometimes those "fanworks" have little to none of the actual "canon" characters and are only involved with the *universe* of the series like my current comic's setting is such but they're not even in the same COUNTRY as the "canon cast" and are only mentioned. :/ So that could be a reason to ignore it as a true "fan comic" I guess...o3o;

Definitely original comics. Not even the slightest doubt about it.

Fan comics hardly pick my interest to begin with, and even when they do they don't keep me entretained for long: I remeber an old webcomic, nicely written and with beautiful art, about the PPGs being grown up and going to a high school populated by all sort of Cartoon Network characters. The concept was quite amusing at first, but i quickly grew bored of it, and i thought: "What a pity! This guy is such a real good artist, but this really feels like wasted talent!"

I love original stuff! (Then again... is anything original, really?)
I tend to like fan-works that move "beyond" the original work or series. Like giving character development to a character who needed it, or exploring something that was left unanswered in the original. But it has to have the same "flavor" or feeling that the original work had that made me like it in the first place.

Do people like comics based on a series? Like a fan comic of some sort?

Or do more people like comics that are original and have an original plot?

I like original plot better. I got nothing against fan comics but I just don't take general interest in them because they are not canon (is that the right term?).

For instance, even though I am a fan of X and Y pair-up that never happened in the series, I don't think I'll go as far as looking for fanfics/fancomics of them to satisfy that craving unless it's similar to the 'What If' series that Marvel comics have where they do a one comic story of a what if scenario for various marvel characters. <--this sounds more 'official' in a sense because it was from Marvel comics itself (owner of the characters) and it gives me the impression that 'if things turned out differently, this is what WOULD HAVE happened' as opposed to 'this is what the fan/author WANTED to happen' impression I get from fanfics/fancomics. (hope that makes sense)

I'd rather see fanart than actually take the time to read through a fanfic/fancomic. I used to read fanfics before though and if you asked me at that moment I would've chosen fancomic but I've outgrown that phase already. ^_^

I like original fanart, when the author portrays the characters in a deep way and makes a wonderful story out of it. Not much OOC though ^^;

Original comics are good, but it's hard to find a good one. It's really difficult to create a complex character/world/story, and they become really cliche. I don't want to see another typical badass marty-stu/mary-su as a main character again, development and feelings please... Also, creators tend to think that if you have an opinion about their characters, you're just a hater.

So yeah, good and bad points in both ^^

I prefer original, that way it's more interesting :o

Sometimes fan comics are slightly boring, because some are just direct copies of the actual thing TT^TT But I do love it when people write fanfiction in their own style!

To be honest, I think original.
*But every time I use any plot, whether it's original or something fan made, it always ends up with the bad guy winning.*
