This is NOT the nomination-suggestion thread. THAT thread will be up when the nomination process begins on March 1st This is where the general discussion of the thread, hence why it's in General Discussion.
Talk about anything concerning the awards! Changes to rules or categories, ideas for NEXT year's, etc.
Here's this year's rules and categories:
Rules For Eligibility:
Spoiler! :
- Comics with less than 30 pages of non-cover/filler updates, or one complete chapter are not eligible for nomination. - Comics that haven't updated in 2 months or more which have no official ending (in other words, DEAD comics or comics on extended hiatus) when we go to pick nominees at the end of the suggestion process are not eligible for nomination. - The Committee will notify every author chosen for nomination in case we wish to decline nomination. If we receive no reply before the end of May, the comic will still be up for nomination. - Comics that have already won in the past 4 years are ineligible to be nominated in the category(s) in which they've won.
Previous Winners Ineligible for Nomination in Certain Categories:
Spoiler! :
- 1000: Best Autobiographical - {MUTE}: Best Sprite - A Girl on the Server: Best Gaming - Amya: Best Action, Best Fantasy, Best Black & White - Between Time and Darkness - D00R (aka Toilet Genie): Best Coloring - Detective Tarson: The WTF Award - Evil Plan: Best Sci-Fi - Fringe Happy: Best Horror - Happyface Comics: Best Gag-A-Day - Hell Kitchen: Best Banner - Hokori: Best Custom Template - Lunar Hill: Best Original Pixel - Mokepon: Best Fan Comic - MYth: Best Romance - Pictures of You: Best Drama - Side Quests: Best Comedy, Best Characters - Them Dudes
Rules For Suggesting Comics For Nominations:
Spoiler! :
- You reply here with your nomination suggestions, with a link to each comic or its profile page. You may suggest however many comics you want with however many categories you want.
Example: "I nominate [comic 1] [comic 2] and [comic 3] for [category]" "I nominate [comic] for [category 1] [category 2] and [category 3]" And any combination in between.
- If you see someone has already nominated a comic you were going to for the category you wish to see it in, nominate it again! The Committee needs to see how many agree with that suggestion. In the end, the suggestions are merely to help us see what the community feels about the comics, making our job in coming up with nominations that represent the whole SJ community easier. - Obviously, you can't nominate your own comic. - Comics that belong to Committee members are eligible. We have vowed to be completely impartial in our judgment of our own comics compared to others. If that's not enough for you, then simply suggest a different comic. - The Committee will stop taking suggestions after May 15th. - (The nomination categories are at the bottom of this post.)
NOTE: Failure to provide any kind of correct links to your nomination-suggestion will result in your suggestions being completely ignored. I'm sorry, but some comics have similar names or go by alternate titles, and we can't be asked to decode your posts for you.
Schedule and dates for entire award process:

Categories (yes, there have been a few additions and subtractions from last year. If you want to bring it up, do so in the OTHER thread):
Spoiler! :
- Best Comedy - Best Drama - Best Horror - Best Romance - Best Action - Best Fantasy - Best Sci-Fi - Best Gag-a-Day (meaning best non-narrative comic where each page is its own individual joke) - Best Short-Story Collection - Best Sprite Comic (meaning best comic with edited sprites, sonic, megaman, etc. - Best Original Pixel Comic (meaning, unlike the sprites, the art is completely original from the ground-up) - Best Autobiographical Comic - Best Gaming Comic (meaning best comic about people who play video games. Seems specific, but there are a lot of them) - *Best Coloring - *Best B&W Comic (meaning best comic that is legitimately B&W by stylistic choice and not just because the artist is too lazy to color) - Best Fan Comic - Best Characters (meaning the comic with the best overall cast of characters) - Most Improved Artwork (meaning how much the artist has improved since the comic's start to the present) - Best Banner - Best Custom Template Joke Categories: (These are not meant to be mean spirited in any way. More playful ribbing.) - Yaoiest Yaoi - Most Misleading Comic (Any aspect of the comic whether it be the banner, description, art style, first couple chapters, that paints an inaccurate picture of the comic's true nature) - The WTF Award (meaning most senslessly random comic)
*If a comic has both B&W and Colored pages, to be elligable for either it must have at least 30 pages of one kind of art. If it has at least 30 pages of each one, then it is elligable for both.
FABULOUS PRIZES:
Spoiler! :
- The coveted GOLDEN BUTLER in your comic's profile page! - Free publicity! - We're working on getting something akin to the Comic Spotlight worked out for the winners/nominees, but that's still in-talks with Admin. - Maybe more if we think of stuff! Any ideas?

Essentially our only mandatory roles are to settle any and all decisions made for the SJ Awards a democratic process, with each member contributing their own thoughts and ideas to the whole process. Anything else we do individually is voluntary, like how I made the pages and stuff for the website last year and H0ly helped me find images from the winners' comics.

Okay then, I'm willing to jump in on this. I loved the SJ Awards last year, and I think it'd be great if there was something I could do to help out.
Oh, right, I probably should've mentioned our first choices both said yes. Paradoxcomic and Eishiya are our two new members!

I have a question about last year's categories that I forgot to ask:
Categories like "Best B&W Comic" - are those talking just about the art, or is it also based on plot like Best Drama, but only among B&W comics?
Figured I should really know this since I'm on the team now, haha~ So glad to be a part of the SJ Awards! I'll make sure they run smoothly, once I find my whip.
ParadoxComic and I will not be as free as usual this weekend, by the way. After Monday we should both be back to our normal schedules of Wake up -> go on SJ -> Go to bed past midnight.
