The Hunger Games Trilogy

The Hunger Games Trilogy

Postby Amante » August 20th, 2012, 11:54 am

I finished this trilogy a little back, and enjoyed it a lot. The final book however, ended really awkwardly. I felt like it was really rushed. Any one else read the series? What are your thoughts?

I've only read the first two; still have to read the final one. It's on my to-do list ^^;

I like Katniss and Peeta, but sometimes...man. I wish those guys could just suck up their feelings and not make them priority number 1. I feel like Katniss is the only one whose priorities make sense. She's all, "Hey, let's not die." and the guys are like, "BUT MY FEELINGS". Maybe that's just me though.

Wouldn't call it a favorite series, but I've enjoyed it so far.

I probably would have liked book 2 better if I'd just read it instead of doing the audiobook. I reaaaaally didn't like the lady's attempts at doing man voices. By the end of it I found everything about her voice obnoxious. (but then, this is me with like every audiobook. I DON'T KNOW WHY I KEEP TRYING)

I've never understood audiobooks for reasons like that.

I finished it in 3 days. All three books. I literally didn't sleep or eat for three days all I did was read.

And what did you think of the last book/ending? I mean, don't be worry about spoilers I guess considering that people should be expecting it when coming into threads like these. Well, if you want to spoiler it go ahead. Idk

I check out threads like these to see how interesting various books sound (if the conversations are interesting and involved, then the books probably are too!). So, for the sake of people like me, please use the spoiler tags xP

My dad loved the series so much he almost ran out and got a Mockingjay tattoo. We had to convince him not to.

I loved the series, the second book being my favorite. It had more characters to fall in love with, the "fight Big Brother" plot was really kicking into high gear, and it had Finnick. Finnick made it all good.

The last book was probably my least favorite. It was still good, but . . . I think it just had the problem most authors have on the end of a series. They rush to get their last breath of storytelling out and end up muddling it all together. There were a lot of paragraphs in it that I skimmed out of boredom.

I listened to all three audiobooks and I really enjoyed them. :) I feel like the third book was definitely the least interesting. But still enjoyable. Honestly the 2nd & 3rd books really blurred together (though probably because I listened to 'em back to back hehe.) The first is the most memorable in my opinion.

Spoiler! :
Too many deaths thrown in there at the end. Seemed kinda forced. I dunno.

I loved the ending, but was a little confused by the approach at first.
Spoiler! :
I didn't really get what exactly happened the first time I read it, so I had to go back and re-read it for clarity. But the idea of her sister dying and Katniss just breaking was pretty awesome. It wasn't a happy ending by any means, but at the same time it was. The world of the book got the ending it wanted, but the main character didn't. That's a really ballsy move for a book, just like a lot of the series was pretty ballsy.

I read all three books a few months ago, back when I was on medical leave from work. I got the first book, thinking "Oh gee, I've heard a lot about this, I should see what all the fuss is about". I read it in a little over a day and had to go out right away and get the other two, it was that good.

I didn't think the second two books were as good as the first, though.

Spoiler! :
I mean, I enjoyed them, but since the second book was also a Hunger Game, so it felt a bit...sequel-y? A little too obvious way to go. I can't really explain it. And the third book felt like it changed genres entirely. While the third book was kind of a logical progression, it was just too different.

Blegh, I'm sorry. I hardly slept last night and I can't really focus on what I'm trying to say.

I only read the first book, I liked it but I didn't like how it was written In present tense, it also seemed like she ( suzanne collins) didn't describe things as much. I also have a hold for the second book in my local library but I'm like the 125th hold out of 128 :(

I read all 3. The ending was eh. I mean like Vito said,
Spoiler! :
It gave the ending the world was asking for but the not the main character which is an awesome concept.

But I just felt like the ending for Katniss was a bit forced.

I like Catching Fire the most though. The first book was great BUT I like how the second developed. Mockingjay was slow. I felt like the set up took forever and I didn't like reading it. After that it picked up though.

Would have enjoyed the series more if the author actually admitted she was inspired by Battle Royale/Running man/Long walk seeing as how she basically copied so many details and characters.

I personally dont like First person narratives. Especially in books. Especially when the main character Katniss, was uninteresting and all levels of infuriating. If it jumped around a little it would have been nice and we'd know more about people beyond who katniss cared to know. (but even the characters katniss cared to know you barely scratch the surface for the exception of maybe her two love interests) She was a bit better in the second book but at that point i put it down when the games once again followed the same battle royale mimicing and when i heard that the third book was utter fail that was it.

Violence is great. when... you kinda care about the people dying left and right?

This is what I found the funniest actually, the fact that she was able to make you feel bad for most of the other characters in the game more than you did for the main character herself. In fact, I didn't feel anything for Peeta either, though I did Gale, and I especially liked Finnick.

I also have a bit of trouble reading First Person narrative books as well, especially after reading Game of Thrones, where is was a bit more of a Third Person POV.
