Super Minecraft thread GO!

Uhg, the only server I go on is down and outdated. Anyone know any good Multiplayer survival servers without any of that bullcrap that most big servers have? (Most of the world being unbreakable with no building or survival aspect, half the screen being text from players, confusing beginning buildings, mining, and actually...building things)

My 1.3 recap:

Writable books aren't that interesting or useful except for adventure maps (and possibly pranks). They are a nice feature in that regard, however.

Tripwires... very obvious (if you're looking for them), but too trap-like for me. I'm one to prefer the "silent" player sensors, such as edited-in mob spawners and the minecart/particle exploit, but in a survival setting such as Server Paradox, I'll only use them if I absolutely have to.

Stackable signs: YES! I have been waiting for so long to have this in the game, especially with mob systems and water control. The 3-per-craft is nice as well, but I was only hoping for the general stacking of them.

Enchanting is nice, but I still wanted to see the experience counted back (when enchanting with a remainder) by the experience itself, and not by the level. That being said, it is definitely a lot better than it was before in terms of how much is necessary to get to the maximum level.

Being more of an SMP player as of late, I quite welcome the merging of SSP and SMP. The code updates will be a lot faster now, and SSP maps can be shared instantly (for example, when letting others test a map). I'm not entirely sure about the problems in SSP that come from this change, but it's not much of my concern at the moment.

There seems to be a little bit of a sound delay in SMP, however; probably caused by a connection between the sound and the update. I hope it gets changed soon, since this is quite offputting.

Why in the world would they base the rotation of the logs off of the cross-section? It's going to be a pain to work with logs now, especially since placing them looking at about eye level makes them lie down sideways. They should have instead worked it like stairs and slabs: whichever side you put it on makes it face in that direction. On the most part it's pretty good, but the way they worked it is a pain.

Trading: only good for getting emeralds, but that being said, emerald blocks look fantastic. That's the whole reason I have a trading depot in my station.

There is a noticeable lack of variation in the temples, but at least they're a good source of TNT, emeralds and pistons. Nothing dangerous unless something spawns inside the desert temples (because of the pressure plate).

I know I've missed some stuff, and I may update this if anyone needs anything else explained or expanded on. As a whole, though, 1.3 is great and I accept it with open arms.

I've seen enough people play this game to know its fun without having to touch it...

Mine Z is insane. In a good way. Playing on a public server where there's 150 other players is pretty brutal with everyone killing everyone, but for a few bucks you can buy your way onto a private server, which I ended up doing. So much nicer. Usually only 6-30 other players on, so you only have to worry about the zombies sneaking up on you, not people.

Only annoyance is how the zombies currently flock about in groups of 4 or more. End up dead every time they spot me ):

"Check ya stats?" (Statistics)
"Holden" (Minecart)
"Eucalyptus" (Oak)
"Sheepskin" (Wool, certain colours)
"Barbie" (Furnace)
"Outbacks played" (Worlds played)
"Mud" (Clay)
"Bunyip" (Creeper)
...and many more.

I can understand the humour in creating an "Australian English" language pack, but I think it's been taken a little bit overboard.

EDIT: To elaborate, they seemed to have just thrown Aussie lingo into a package and shipped it out in 1.3, without taking too much time to consider the balance and accuracy of what they're putting in. For instance, you don't just call any old wheeled transport a Holden, it has to be of the Holden brand. Diamond, iron and gold boots are referred to as "Thongs" (the open-topped footwear), when it would be more appropriate to limit it to leather (with leather helms being called "Akubra"s). Don't get me wrong, they did a good job with a great number of items ("Chooks" for chickens and "Bruce" for villagers, to name a few), but when counting everything as a whole it just seems like they went a bit too far with adding terms.

Have you played with the Pirate lingo? It's just meant to be goofy, and sometimes they may not know a more fitting word to use. As for the shoes--I'm pretty sure you can't name the materials differently, so they all have to be [material] thongs.

Yeah, but with the pirate language pack, they went all-out and modified the entire vernacular, instead of modifying terms. Everything from "Bullion" (Gold ore) to "Mark yer chart and abandon ship" (Save and exit) has been altered to resemble the way pirates speak, whereas in the "Australian English" language pack it's just been a changing of terms. If "Australian English" changed the messages to resemble how stereotypical Australians speak, I would have loved that, but it more feels like a "Canadian English"-style language pack gone a lot further (the "Canadian English" language pack adds a "Sorry" to the start of the "Cannot use bed" message).

That's not to say I don't like the language pack - I got a good laugh from it, to be honest - but there's a limit to how much you can add to a joke before it becomes a bit much. I agree with you in that it's goofy and a bit of fun, and in the end that's all that really matters, but I'm just trying to express my opinion of it (as well as letting people know that there is an "Australian English" language pack).

Oh, and the terms for boots can be modified. In the normal language packs there are changes between leather and metal helmets, chestplates and leggings (boots is consistent throughout it), and in the "Pirate Speak" language pack gold boots are called "Buttershoes".

Ah, haven't seen that, I've just been tinkering around a bit. And I can understand your complaints, I just also understand them not bothering to put -that- much effort into it.

So I've been trying out the latest snapshot (having seen countless Minecraft LPers play the living daylights out of it), and I've been focusing my attention on the Wither boss, and strategies revolving around killing it.

From what I have found, on Hard difficulty, killing a Wither would just require standard enchanted diamond gear. A sharpness 2 or 3 sword with protection 2 armour should dispatch a Wither while keeping it's withering effect from killing you, and without using potions. You can, if you choose, kill it with unenchanted gear; however, I would suggest drinking an extended respiration potion to heal yourself from the wither effect.

Or, if you want to be a bit more technical, you can theoretically kill a Wither with only a bucket of water. This would require finding a group of bedrock blocks that trap the Wither on all four sides while still allowing a T shape to place the blocks to spawn it, and ensuring that there are no entities within range of the Wither (yourself included), but other than that it requires minimal effort. Docm77 has talked about it in his Let's Play, although it was discovered by another LPer called Pandasomethingsomething.

Since the server has more or less died, I'm going to be restarting it to build a proper spawn hub and (hopefully, if I can figure it out) install some mods. If you have something you built on the server you don't want to lose let me know and I'll send you the downloaded map.

Had a fun little adventure yesterday and I feel like sharing. I should mention that I have been playing Minecraft for a long, long time. I feel I should be better than this by now.

I had just died and lost all my tools, weapons and armor. Creeper snuck up on me in the woods on the way home. No big, I was relatively close to home and had a spare set of everything in a chest by my bed for just such an occasion. I headed back out to the spot where I died and something somewhere went horribly wrong, the game froze, and when it restarted I had blown up again. I slept first this time, kicking myself for going out again at night in the first place, but when I headed out for the third time all my stuff from BOTH the explosions had already despawned! So I headed home, but somehow I'd gotten myself completely turned around and wandered the woods with next to nothing for 2 or 3 days. I finally found my way home in the middle of the night being chased by a couple of spiders. As I rushed in the door I accidentally let my dog out and it immediately attacked one of the spiders and got itself killed. So there's that.
Finally I used the last of my iron to make a pair of boots so I would at least have some protection and headed out with a stone pick to replace my lost stuff. As I wandered around looking for a cave, I happened upon a couple of craters and what should I see at the bottom of them? All my weapons, tools and armor! Turns out they hadn't despawned, I'd just gone in completely the wrong direction. And then on top of that I found a huge cave system right near the surface where I fairly quickly managed to get nearly two full stacks of iron without running into much trouble. So that was awesome, everything turned out alright in the end!

Except my dog. My dog is still dead.

Husband and I are playing on a faction-based PVP server. He's starting his own faction tomorrow, so if anyone wants to give it a try, let me know and I'll send you details.
