Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

Postby TerminalMontage » February 24th, 2012, 3:19 pm

Alrighty folks, I know there is an MMO thread already, but here is one specifically for the unreleased..
Image

So I'm pretty psyched for it, back when it was announced in 2007 I got excited, but after a while I got unexcited cause the pain of waiting for it was too great, but now.. They announced that it'll come out this year, and by the looks of it, by Summer! Beta testing is underway, over 1 million people signed up for just the beta alone, for the 48 hours signing up was available.
Image
(here is a screenshot of where they were at with sign ups about 2 hours ago, they did break 1 million)

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS GUILD WARS 2:

It's an action Massively Multiplayer Online game, with no monthly fees (you have to buy the game though), and it's changing the MMO genre. If you're familiar with most MMOs, like World of Warcraft, it has a "holy-trinity," that consists of a Healer, Tank (person who takes hits), and DPS (Damage per second, people who just attack), GW2 doesn't have that (So that means no waiting around for hours to find a tank or healer to join you).

All the professions can heal, they can all bring back fallen allies, everyone can fight, (there is even a downed state, that gives you one last chance to win a battle before you die, much like CoD's "Last Stand" it's pretty neat). The story and quests are dynamic, you no longer to need travel from NPC (non-playable character) to NPC delivering goods and killing 10 cows when asked, GW2 encourages exploration, and while you're doing that the quests literally come to you. Hanging out in a bar with a friend? An NPC might run it and ask for help because centaurs are burning down his farm for example (there are also bar fights :D). There is also a dodge mechanic and positioning is very important, which is amazing for those of us that played regular MMOs (if someone shoots an arrow at you in WoW, you can't "dodge" it, if a rabbit bites the air 20 feet away from you, you still take damage, GW2 isn't like that, if you move out of the way of an arrow, it actually misses. This should've been in games a long time ago).

If you want to learn more about the game, it's professions and classes check out the main site http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/races/ there is so much more to it, it's bloody terrific.

FOR THOSE OF US THAT (WILL) PLAY:

When the game is released I'll be sure to post here what server we'll get on so we can all play together :D unless someone gets the game before me, if you get in a server post it here and I'll edit it into this post. Good news too, characters are not locked into servers, you can make a character and move to other servers, but there is a catch. GW2 has WvW (World VS World) where servers duke it out on huge maps with hundreds of players (it's quite awesome), so if you go to another server that isn't your Home Server, you cannot participate in WvW, and if you want to change your Home Server, they said there would be a fee.

45 minutes of World vs World gameplay http://youtu.be/mzQCi7c0DuY (about 20 minutes in the guy gets in a mech)

I don't think this needs it's own thread, (or an unreleased MMO central, either. The MMO thread doesn't get as much action as it is. :C)

Anywho I might try GW2 if there's an open beta or something later. Or is it in open right now?

Of course it needs its own thread! This baby is going to get lots of action one day.

There won't be an open beta for GW2, they'll all most likely be closed, weekend events that you need to sign up for. I signed up for the next one which is TBA, but they'll have plenty more they said.

With all due respect a lot of people probably think a lot of single games deserve their own threads, but that would just make the gaming section be cluttered with everyone's various faves, haha.

And eh, I won't go out of my way to try getting into a CBT since I know for a fact my friend wants to get it. It'll only be a matter of time before I can see him playing it.

Guild Wars was my jam when I could play it.

I can't wait till this comes out, though I'll probably have to buy a new computer so that I can run it.

I have been waiting patiently since last summer when they expected to get it out in November.
I've been keeping up with their main site and blog since then, and it's been both painful and exciting.

I think it's pretty obvious that this is going to be a good game when ArenaNet decided re-make the Sylvari last year, whilst already so far into development.
I just want my Charr Necromancer already, aaah

Been waiting so long and eventually lost my interest for mmorpg's. I wonder if I'll end up playing it anyway.

I've been sort of watching this game out of one eye. I played the first one, and it wasn't bad by any means. I remember getting to a point where I was just "FEH!" and stopped playing, but that's been so long ago I can't remember what made me do that or why. I think City of Heroes was some how involved....but I can't remember why. I do know there was a bit too much of an emphasis on PVP for my taste.

I dabbled a little in the beta, and I *really* like the Sylvari(I made mine with a mushroom hat!) and what I saw they did with the classes. New enough to be interesting, familiar enough to be easy to grasp you know? What I played was fun and solid enough, buuuut I'm still in the neutral camp. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it. Maybe if some friends do and I have some extra monies.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Why does everything cost money and where do people get it?

I can definitely afford that, but my mother has my money. She owes me but I feel a bit mean when I nag her about it... Besides, I just started school, so even if I buy it now I can't play it until a few days in December and then next summer, so I might as well wait and buy it later when it's less pricey. Because if I play games during school I'll just use up all my sick days lolsob.

I've been playing nonstop since release, I cannot contain myself. I'm so happy I can't even enjoy the game, there is just so much to do, I have no idea where to start, I've just been running around the cities.
