The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man

Anyone psyched for it? Afraid of it? Hate it?

As I explained in other threads, I see this to be more original and new than Avengers and TDKR. It's just introducing so many elements that were missing in Spider-Man and have both the comedic elements of Avengers and at the same time having dark/realistic reboot. But that still is my take on it. What about yours?

Here's a kickass trailer: http://screenrant.com/amazing-spiderman ... dy-175189/

Can't wait for it! Although I liked the other Spider-Man films, I never thought Toby Maguire was a good casting. The new guy (Andrew Garfield) looks and seems a lot more like Peter Parker to me and judging from the trailer this new one is going to put the "amazing" back in The Amazing Spider-Man!

I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet, but I do like Andrew Garfield. I'm not sure how I feel about the villains, and some of the stylistic choices are a bit off for me, but I think it suits the "amazing" scale a bit better than the previous trilogy. And introducing Gwen Stacy is really just asking for a particularly angsty sequel 8-) .

I'd been pretty skeptical at first when the initial trailers came out since they hadn't shown much of the plot and the scene with him swinging over the city looked like video game gameplay graphics to me, but after seeing the most recent movie trailers, I'd have to say I'm anticipating watching it! The new guy seems like a pretty good fit for the role, the plot's pretty different from the first movie's, and there's Emma Stone in it!
I'm excited, man.

I hope this reboot means one day I will get to see proper Venom. As much as I love Topher Grace, he was the worst possible choice for Eddie Brock/Venom.

If one movie in the trilogy was about Venom and Carnage, I would lose my shit.

It would be the best Spiderman movie.

I remember being excited about a reboot and hoping they'd make Spider-Man be more like... Spider-Man, but after hearing Peter Parker's voice in one of the trailers he still sounds a bit on the whiny/emo side...
Then again maybe I just need to watch some newer trailers or something.
Now what might this be?

Please do so. He's played by a 28 year old guy after all.

I just caught a glimpse of a newer trailer. I saw the Knife bit and chuckled. He seems much more Spider-Man-ish than Tobey Maguire.

Just got back from the midnight premiere. Personally, I thought it was going to suck, but it was pretty good. Not Avengers or Dark Knight, but average. There are quite a few jokes in the movie that keep it from getting too dark, and the action sequences are pretty good. I'm aware that Lizard's design is based of his first appearance in the comic books, but I would have preferred later designs that gave him a more elongated lizard face instead of the stubby nose he has here. Other thoughts that might be spoilery:

Spoiler! :
They sequel hook the hell out of this movie. Spider-Man doesn't find the mugger that killed Ben (though they give clues about a star tattoo on his wrist), Conners meets some shadowy guy in prison (my guess is someone at Oscorp, so maybe Norman Osborne) who asks if Conners told Peter why his father disappeared, and Peter breaks up with Gwen for her protection, but it's hinted that they'll get together again. On top of it all, Ben's last voicemail to Peter tells him that the unresolved details in his life define him, which fits thematically, but seems odd since in the scene the voicemail was originally left, Peter was supposed to pick up Aunt May since Ben was on a late shift. Seems like an odd message to leave. Anyways, I hope they get a sequel, because these loose ends are going to suck if they don't greenlight another one.

Finally, am I the only one who saw Curt Conners and thought "He kind of looks like Alton Brown from Good Eats?

Spoiler! :
my friend thought that dude was Mysterio but i dont knowwww everyone's saying he's someone different

i just got back too and i really liked it!!!!!!!!!!
he was such a good peter and i really liked how they handled his powers when he was just getting them
Spoiler! :
like his super strength which they dont really touch on in the older ones. and when he accidentally beat all those people up in the subway. also the scene where he was swinging on chains and wall crawling and skateboarding and happy was really good i liked it a lot.

ALSO WHEN THE POLICE ZAPPED HIM AND HE FELL WHEN HIS BUTT HIT THE GROUND IT SHOOK

so obviously

the best spider-man movie ever. clearly.

Just got back from. Uh, wouldn't recommend. Way too much work on cheap thrills, not enough work on depth and emotion.

Well, okay. You can watch it. It's not going to kill you, but it shouldn't amaze you either.

I don't really expect otherwise from Superhero movies, to be honest. XD
I watch them for the same reason I'd watch a Kung-Fu movie. I'm more interested in the action and over-the-top stuff than story/character depth.

I'm gonna like it, not only because Spiderman is boss but because the expectations I have for anything movie related can't be any lower.

IF you expect Shit and get it then it dosen't feel like a punch to the crotch.

Just saw it tonight! And I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! It's much better than I thought it would be.

Peter's so socially awkward in the film. It's cute at times, and then very uncomfortable at others. Angst is the name of the game here. You WILL most likely be bothered by the way the Lizard talks. I know I was!

However, on a side note:

Spoiler! :
When me and my bro started speculating about the sequels, because they most likely WILL happen, we started to realize just how much like the Batman trilogy they could get.

Movie 1 - Spiderman Begins
You meet the girlfriend, the cop, the mentor turned villain, and there's a biotoxin. Oh, and of course he has parent problems and Sudden Relative Death Syndrome. Compare to Batman Begins.

Possible Movie 2 - The Osborn Saga
Norman (a shadow man in the first film, I'm sad to say) is desperate and dying, so he takes his son's new friend Peter (now a college student) under his wing. Peter is forced into his father's research. And, with the name Gwen Stacy, it's just asking for it... Compare to The Dark Knight.

And don't forget, the game apparently had Black Cat in it, so we already have a Catwoman parallel... No seriously, guys, I think I'm just looking too far into this.
It's just weird that a lot of moments in the film recalled VERY SPECIFIC images from Batman Begins that led to a discussion on just how much they hinted at it.
