It's an interesting idea, but why? The Completed option is there to aid people in finding comics that are finished. Are there really people seeking comics on hiatus specifically?

In a perfect world, there would be no hiatuses ;_;

I suppose a hiatus option would be helpful to weed out comics as opposed to finding them- for instance, if you could run a search for comics that are This, That, and Somethingelse, except those on hiatus. As it is, I personally think being on hiatus is something you should keep kind of low-key- I mean, don't hide the fact that you're on hiatus, but... I dunno, I'm having trouble explaining why. "Last updated" does a pretty good job of telling potential readers that there's been a schedule slip, I think.

(Actually, last updated would even help with the search function without a "hiatus" category option- can't you sort by "last updated" or "most recently updated" something like that?)

I vote for searching for hiatus comics. :D

no, not really. ...Buuuut, I disagree with wanting to weed out hiatus comics, or hiding that they're on hiatus. Is it just me who would be relieved to find out a comic is on hiatus rather than totally abandoned? :/ I think the hiatus thing might work (if other people have the same opinion as me) if comics not updated for over a certain period of time are automatically labeled as abandoned. And having an option of 'no abandoned comics' in the search. If the author checks a hiatus box, then they would still be shown on the 'no abandoned comics' search option.

edit: oh, and yes, I'm sure there's a most recently updated search feature or something, because I've used it to find new comics with specific keywords.

Most comics on hiatus end up being abandoned/forgotten/etc, and it's not likely the author would change it from that status. You really can't know. I think an "abandoned" status would be more useful, because there's a higher degree of certainty there.

I think it's just better to only have Completed as a special status. Everything else is pretty easy to guess from the "Last updated" time.

The problem with abandoned is it's kind of a weird line to define. In many cases it would have to be applied by someone who wasn't the author, if it was a situation where the author just actually forgot about the comic. They probably wouldn't remember it and come back just to label it as abandoned. But maybe I'm alone in this train of thought.

Well, if it did exist, and if it was possible to do, then it'd be really nice if they'd automatically be unchecked from being on hiatus when next updated. But, I still think you're right about it being iffy.

And if there's an abandoned option where people need to check "abandoned", then I doubt people leaving the site would do that, while if it's automatic, people on hiatus might accidentally be there - unless they're sent a notice by email or pm or something (after a long time), asking them if the comic's been abandoned. In which case, no answer would mean yes. (and maybe the notification email would have more than one possible response, like "this comic is still on-going", "this comic is completed, and I'd like to label it as such", "this comic is abandoned, and I'd like to label it as such" - or even, "this comic is on hiatus, and I'd like to label it as such")
But, I'm just thinking about it. It'd be less complicated without anything.

As mitchellbravo said, I think guessing from the Last Updated line would be a better gauge as to whether or not a comic is on hiatus or abandoned (both of which are pretty much the same thing to me, personally), rather than having separate tags/checkboxes. 'Completed' is more special, simply because there are less completed comics out there than those which are on hiatus or abandoned. Not trying to generalize or anything, but it's been a long time since I've come across a story that's completed. Plus, if the comic hasn't been updated in 6 months or an entire year, I don't think there's any chance of the author coming back and telling readers, "Hey howdy hey I'm still well and kicking still on hiatus lol"

All in all though, I hope I'll get to use this ♥ This is such an awesome feature!

I found out about this now, and already implemented it on two of my comics that are finished.
I also had that doubt about the short-stories, but I see you've answered that.
Thank you for this feature, I think it's great that the finished webcomics are separated from the on-hiatus or the abandoned ones.

Hey admin, I got a quick question, is it possible to update pages on a completed comic, to advertise a prequel updated as another webcomic? Only once of course.
Also, I know these site is to host webcomics, but monthly filler illustrations after it ended is no good?
Thanks for your time.

Yeah, that's fine. As long as the actual comic portion has been completed, it's okay to mark the comic is completed.

Hey, this 'complete' thing is a really good idea.

I completed one of my comics like 7-8 months ago and I added to the banner the word "COMPLETED" in capitals just to make sure people will know.
Now, it's even easier and it makes it official.
Plus I don't get to see "Last Update: gazillion months ago" anymore! ^__^
(I still see it on my other comic though -_-)

There was a time I surched for completed comics but didn't had much success.
Now I can do it every day! XD
