Question! Please answer honestly !

Postby raiinbowstarsstudios » July 4th, 2011, 11:51 am

I was wondering what people liked better...

Do people like comics based on a series? Like a fan comic of some sort?

Or do more people like comics that are original and have an original plot?

I was just curious ^^

I prefer original material, because there are few series that I like enough to want to read fan material of them.

Original.

I do enjoy some fan comics, but those tend to be on the "almost original" side of the fan story spectrum.

Edit: I guess I should elaborate.
I do not care to see characters from a story used in a fan comic, because no matter what they do, it'll probably be OOC. I do not get attached to characters, so I see no point in seeing them do things that they don't have to do for the main plot, especially in a non-canon situation like a fan comic.
However, seeing original characters in an existing world is pretty enjoyable for me, especially if it's an expansive world to begin with (for example, the Pokemon world, or one of the Final Fantasy worlds).
Busy, busy.

It depends on who you ask! There is no wrong or right answer. Unprofessional/free websites usually tend to have audiences that like fan-comics more (like deviantart, sj, ext) Probably because younger audiences in general adore fan comics.

I personally like original comics more.
I can understand why people like fan comics though- because the people are already familiar with the characters and they've already been established.
I can also understand why people like original comics more- because you have complete creative control.

I think original comics are more interesting than fan comics.

Both.

While I do like originals better, I have read some fan comics that are quite good.

I prefer Original Stuff.

Though, fan-based stuff CAN be very good. *cough*mokepon*cough*

This. Err... Well it's not so much that I don't like things enough, it's just that I usually have no interest in seeing other peoples' renditions of something I love. And on top of that, many fan works have trouble keeping the characters in-character. The only time I enjoy fan work is when they can make the characters act how I'd imagine them acting if the creators themselves were the ones writing the fan work. (I make exceptions for Rule 34, but I'm still picky about some things.)

There are the occasional fanworks I enjoy. SMBZ is one of my favorites, mainly because of the action but also because Alvin manages to make all the characters act so believably. He's great at keeping everyone in-character.

Overall though, I prefer original stuff, and even when I enjoy fan works it simply makes me wish the author would put his talents to use with something of their own creation.
('Cept for SMBZ. That shit's golden.)
Now what might this be?

I like original stories much much more, I actually wish I could filter out the fan comics on sj so I could find the original ones easier. Almost as much as I want to somehow filter out the pointless BL, and I'm not saying that in a way to insult BL, I mean the ones that have no real storyline and just man on man action and therefor -to me- no point. I likes me some story lines thank you very much.

I can enjoy a fan comic if it happens to be VERY well done story and art-wise, but I think I'll always lean toward original stories because,I don't know, I think it's cooler to make up your own world instead of building off an existing one.
