This. Err... Well it's not so much that I don't
like things enough, it's just that I usually have no interest in seeing other peoples' renditions of something I love. And on top of that, many fan works have trouble keeping the characters
in-character. The only time I enjoy fan work is when they can make the characters act how I'd imagine them acting if the creators themselves were the ones writing the fan work.
(I make exceptions for Rule 34, but I'm still picky about some things.)There are the occasional fanworks I enjoy. SMBZ is one of my favorites, mainly because of the action but also because Alvin manages to make all the characters act so believably. He's great at keeping everyone in-character.
Overall though, I prefer original stuff, and even when I enjoy fan works it simply makes me wish the author would put his talents to use with something of their own creation.
('Cept for SMBZ. That shit's golden.)
