Art school can be helpful in becoming a sequential artist, but keep in mind that people who are attentive and self-motivated (like Scottie Young) can make it a career without the schooling. Also, if you get someone who isn't so good of a student or a school that doesn't really teach the basics of composition, panel layouts, and whatever, you're also not going to really get good results.
I'm only saying this because some people have misconceptions about art school being a waste of time, or inversely that anyone can become an artist once they go through one.
Anyway, good luck finding a participant.
