Forum rules
Suggestions & Feedback Posting Guidelines
The purpose of this board is to allow community members to suggest new features or changes to be added to Smack Jeeves. Even if you aren't sure of a specific solution, but you recognize the need for an improvement, point it out!

Before Posting
Please browse/search the forum to make sure your suggestion hasn't already been made by someone else. If you find an idea similar to yours, post your contributing thoughts to that thread. Don't start a new thread unless your idea is significantly different from existing suggestions.

Rules

    1) Use a descriptive title when making a suggestion or pointing out the need for improvement.

    2) Describe the problem / solution in detail. First, explain why there is a problem or a need for a new feature to begin with. Then, describe your proposed solution (if you have one) clearly and effectively.

    3) Respect others' ideas. If you disagree with someone else's ideas or suggestions, respectfully and factually state why. While debate over different solutions is fine, insults or personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Sticky System
Suggestions that have been approved and chosen for implementation by the development team will be stickied. When development begins on an idea, that topic will be moved to the New Features & Changes in Progress board.

Extended Hit Tracking

As I've stated before, I have no idea of the complexity involved in setting these things up, but there is something I've been wanting (not necessarily in-site) for a while and I can't find one that provides it reliably. It might be too difficult to implement, but I figure it's worth suggesting.

We already have Site Tracking that displays the numbers of page hits and unique visitors, which is a function I use every day. I don't know how many others do, but it's a very valuable resource that should be used by everyone. It would be even more valuable if there was a way to be able to see Referrers or sites from where our hits are being linked. This would be invaluable in seeing where our traffic originates, see what kind of advertising is working or not, or just sites that are linking to us. It wouldn't need to be so complex as tracking IPs and all the technical detritus, perhaps as simple as just the site where a visitor's first connection to the comic is being linked. Project Wonderful does the kind of thing I'm talking about, but the stats there are wildly inaccurate and incomplete.

I have plans to expand the stat meter in the future, but that is a little ways away. I would highly recommend adding Google Analytics to your site in the meantime if you want something now.

Ah, that's a great idea! I have wordpress and it's about the only way I know who is viewing my site. Everything from google searches to the sites that bring in visitors. Definitely a useful tool to those who are involved just as much outside of smackjeeves as they are inside.
