Banner Limitation Problem

Postby Jellybones » January 22nd, 2010, 11:11 pm

There's a problem I'm having with the banner's size limitations. The limitation is 468 x 60, which is fine, but my banner which is 467 x 59, doesn't work when I attempt to add it. It just keeps telling me the size is too big, when it obviously isn't.

If it helps, this is the actual banner. Maybe something else is wrong with it, though I highly doubt it.

I know this half-assed banner may suggest otherwise, but I like to think my comic is good, decent, fun.

Try uploading it to an imagehost, and then linking it from there.

To clarify, it isn't too large in dimensions, it is too large in filesize. Your image has to be less than or equal to 40Kb.

How can I lower filesize, then? I already attempted linking the image after uploading it but... no good.

Can you give me a link to the uploaded image?

So what exactly happens when you try to link that?

Just this, pretty much. I have no idea what's wrong.

I thought that the file size needs to be under 40 kb even when you upload from the web (your image is 56.6 kb). However, the site gives the same error message regardless of whether dimension or file size is the problem. Try saving it as a mid-quality JPEG, maybe (about 9 or 10 in Photoshop)? I find that works well for me.

Nope, filesize is irrelevant once is hosted on another site (my animated banner in my sig is waaaay too big to have fit within the limit)

^ Yes, I just found that out the not necessarily hard, but frustrating way.

Nothing worked until I finally opened the signature in paint, then made it smaller myself and saved it as .jpg. It doesn't look bad, so I'm fine with it.

Thanks for all the help, I appreciated it.

Nope, size doesn't matter for remotely hosted images.

I'm not sure what the problem is. I actually had no problem setting that image as my banner.
